Large Red Drum, (Old Drum) are still feeding in the Sound, along the shoals and ledges at the mouth of the Neuse and Bay Rivers. Fishermen are catching them on Menhaden and Mullet with Lupton rigs in deeper water (8′ to 12′) and along the shoals (3′ to 5′).
Slot Red Drum, Speckled Trout and keeper Flounder are feeding along shorelines in the lower parts of the rivers. Anglers are catching solid numbers of keeper specks (ranging from 15″-20”) on top-water plugs and soft plastics (Gulp) fished under popping corks.
The traditional method of fishing dead and cut baits along shoals and ledges is producing plenty of action with the Big Drum, anglers are also hooking big numbers of large Red Drum (40-50”+) while working large soft plastic baits under popping corks in the Pamlico Sound and lower rivers nearby. Target active bait balls and slicks.
Additionally, some Shrimp are showing up and can be found along the shoreline. I have been seeing more and more ducks beginning to show up. Duck season is just around the corner.
Tight lines,
Capt. Gary
