The tarpon have left. The old drums have left. What do we do now? The answer is we fish the creeks for trout. In October the trout start coming into the creeks and will stay there until April. As October progresses and November arrives, you will be able to track the trout from the mouth of the creeks to mid-creek to the back of the creeks. As the water temperatures drop, so do the aggressiveness of the fish. What once was a strong hit turns into a milder tap on the end of your line. Cooler waters bring slower fish reactions which should mean slower retrievals of your bait. As the water temperatures drop, the clarity of the water increases. If you can see them, they can see you so no crazy dancing on the boat. Hard baits, such as Mirro-Lures, become more popular but don’t forget the jig heads with soft plastics. The waters are shallower in the creeks so fish suspended bait and lighter jig heads.
…don’t let the big one get away
